Teaching lawyers advanced trial strategy & ethics
Sara Webster and Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman presented a program on The Child Witness: Ethical & Strategic Issues at Widener University Delaware School of Law.
As experts in litigating cases with children as witnesses, Ms. Webster and Ms. Ferman discussed such issues as best practices for interviewing the child, trial preparation specific to cases with children’s testimony, how to accommodate young people in the courtroom, how to deal with questions of competency, alternatives to live testimony in the courtroom, the “commandments of cross-examination,” sentencing and disposition considerations, and the impact of legislation arising out of the Jerry Sandusky case.
