Police Search of Vehicle – Odor of Marijuana Gives Police Right to Search Car
Generally, police are required to obtain a warrant supported by probable cause before they can search your home. This requirement does not exist with respect to vehicles, and police can search your vehicle without a warrant, if the police officer believes there is probable cause to believe evidence of a crime may be found inside. In addition, courts in Pennsylvania have found that the presence of marijuana odor coming from your car is sufficient to give police probable cause to perform a warrantless search of the car.
